Dignified Duty: Personnel Retrieval and Processing Company Marines Partner with Joint and Multinational forces during Northern Strike 26-2
CAMP GRAYLING Mich. – U.S. Marines with Personnel Retrieval and Processing Company, 4th Marine Logistics Group, Marine Forces Reserve, lead training with joint and multinational forces during Northern Strike 26-2. Northern Strike 26-2 is an Army sponsored, multi-component, multinational exercise designed to build readiness and enhance interoperability to fight and win. This year’s exercise featured over nine-thousand participants across the joint force and participating NATO countries.
During Northern Strike 26-2, Marines with Personnel Retrieval and Processing Company led the Joint Unit Recovery Team Course. The course graduated twenty-two students and provided search and recovery augment training for more than eight-hundred US and multinational forces across the Army, Navy, Air Force and United Kingdom on the dignified collection and transfer of service member remains. The training evolution is designed to provide joint and multinational forces with a cohesive understanding of the dignified recovery and evacuation procedures when handling service member remains to prepare them for real-world scenarios.
Participants were instructed through a progressive training evolution beginning with classroom instruction, before moving through lane training and search and recovery techniques. The training concluded in a culminating event where participants got hands on experience in the field demonstrating critical capabilities and techniques in a contaminated environment. Those who completed the course attended a graduation ceremony where all graduates received a unit recovery team class medallion. The honor graduate and gung-ho also received specialty medallions for their exemplary performance on behalf of the of the PRP company commander.
After the graduation ceremony, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Andrew Carter, a subject matter expert in personnel retrieval and processing echoed the unit recovery team motto, “Fight with valor, win the day, recover the fallen.” When asked how PRP Company augments the Marine Corps Reserve and total force, Carter replied, “The Marine Corps is good at winning the day. We need to strive to be better at recovering the fallen.”
PRP Company is the only unit within the Marine Corps that conducts casualty management and mortuary affairs operations, demonstrating the unique reserve capabilities within 4th Marine Logistics Group and Marine Forces Reserve.
“Our training at Northern Strike 26-2 encompasses the full spectrum of fatality management with our joint and multinational partners from search and recovery operations at the point of an incident, through theater level evacuation of human remains, to final burial.” said Major Kyle Blond, company commander, PRP Company, 4th Combat Readiness Regiment.
PRP Company continues to provide a critical capability within the Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve, returning fallen service members home with dignity, honor, reverence and respect.
