S. Korea’s Lee Vows Stronger Climate Partnership with Pacific Nations
The diplomatic gathering occurred as senior officials convened in South Korea for the sixth Korea-Pacific Islands foreign ministers' meeting, a news agency confirmed.
"We will respond proactively to the shared threat of the climate crisis and to support vulnerable countries in achieving self-sustaining growth based on Korea's own development experience to build a better future together," he added.
A day earlier, South Korea and Pacific Island representatives issued a joint declaration following ministerial talks, committing to expanded partnerships addressing climate change, environmental protection, and ocean governance including maritime affairs and fisheries.
Pacific island territories face existential danger from accelerating sea level rise, with climate projections indicating certain areas will experience dramatic increases in high-tide flooding within the next three decades by the 2050s.
