Syrian President Lands in Brazil for COP30 Climate Summit

(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in Brazil on Thursday for a two-day trip to attend the COP30 climate summit, which runs from Nov. 6 to 21, according to a Syrian news agency.

Sharaa becomes the first Syrian president to participate in a UN climate conference since the series began in 1995.

After the summit, the Syrian leader is slated to travel to Washington for a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

The COP30 gathering is projected to host approximately 50,000 participants, including world leaders, scientists, and representatives from non-governmental organizations, all convening to discuss global strategies to address the climate crisis.
